About Entrepreneur Quiz

Many of us would like to start a business. Only some will have the guts to give it a try. And only some of them will succeed. According to The U.S. Small Business Administration, one third of small businesses do not survive past the first two years [1,2]. One of the most important factors for the success of a startup phase is the extent to which the business activity you pursue, and its magnitude, matches your personality.

The 9 Entrepreneur Types

We distinguish nine basic entrepreneur types:

Business Leader and Business Leader of Technology types can start and grow an innovative business.

Executive Manager types are particularly good in running, managing, and maintaining sustainability of a business. More often than not they buy an established business.

Innovative Manager types are good in running, managing and maintaining a business, but just as well succeed in stating and growing a business.

Artisan types base their business on their professional skills and talents, typically in a B2C format (business directly to consumer).

Franchisee types buy and run an established business, or buy the right or license to engage in or reproduce a business (a “franchise”), usually with already proven business model and established brand.

Freelancer types’ businesses are based on their professional skills and work experience. As a rule, they do short-term B2B (business to business) contracts.

Home Business Entrepreneurs are good in running a home-based business which can be either B2C or B2B. If it is a B2B, they focus on long term contracts.

Analyst types either work alone to provide services requiring analytical skills, or team up with other entrepreneur types to develop, test and introduce new approaches and methods.

This classification is based on the analysis of hundreds of businesses.

Business Size and Entrepreneur Types

Entrepreneur types can be grouped according to the largest size of business that suits them – in terms of number of employees, clients, volume of communications and operations, as follows:

Large Scale Businesses
BLT BL
FRE IM ART
Medium Scale Businesses
EM FRA
ANA HBE
Small Scale Businesses

Small-scale businesses: typically have a small-scale business involving 1 or 2 people, small number of business operations per day, and small number of clients.

Medium-scale businesses: their employees are directly managed by the business owner and therefore, as a rule, their number does not exceed 6. They have a greater number of business operations daily and often have a significant number of clients and business contacts.

Large-scale businesses: have more employees, in more complex management hierarchy than in the medium-scale businesses. They have great number of business operations daily. As rule such businesses are characterized by a large number of clients, business contacts, and great volume of business communication.

Note that this grouping indicates the maximum business scale comfortable for a type. That means that an entrepreneur type can be comfortable with running a smaller scale business than the group they are placed in on the diagram. However, running a business of a scale larger than the group a type is placed in may be more challenging and riskier for the type. Such scenarios might benefit from partnering with other entrepreneur types that might be better equipped, from personality traits standpoint, for running larger scale operations.
